Armed Employee Foils Donut Shop Robbery in Houston, Right to Carry Pays Dividends

Houston, TX – An armed robbery attempt at Snowflake Donuts on Winkler Drive in southeast Houston was thwarted on Thursday, May 1, 2025, when an employee shot and killed the suspect, according to Houston Police.
The incident occurred around 6:10 AM near the Gulf Freeway and Howard Drive. Officers arrived shortly after to find the suspect, a male dressed in a black hoodie and dark clothing, dead behind the counter with a gunshot wound.
Police confirmed the suspect was armed with a firearm, and the cash register was found open, indicating a robbery in progress.
The employee, who was not identified, fired a single shot in self-defense, protecting himself and others in the shop.
The store owner told FOX 26 that the suspect had targeted the employee at the register, and the owner’s husband, also present, was the one who shot the suspect. Houston Police Homicide Detective Socrates Trujillo stated that the shooting appeared to be self-defense, but the case will be reviewed by a Harris County grand jury to determine if the employee will face charges.
Gun rights activist Colion Noir, a Houston native, shared the incident on X on May 4, 2025, emphasizing the importance of being armed and prepared. “At 6AM, a guy tried to rob a donut shop in Houston—what he didn’t know was the employee behind the counter wasn’t just baking… he was carrying,” Noir wrote in his post.
He also highlighted the legal challenges that often follow such incidents, noting, “Even though this looks like clear-cut self-defense, the employee still has to go through the legal system. That’s the part most people forget—pulling the trigger might save your life, but it’s just the beginning of the fight.”
Noir’s post included security footage showing the suspect fleeing the shop before collapsing outside, as well as another angle capturing the confrontation inside.
The incident has drawn attention to the rising trend of donut shop robberies in Houston, with police noting that teens have been targeting similar businesses in the area.
Noir used the event to advocate for the empowerment of law-abiding citizens, arguing that the right to carry can be a critical defense against crime.
