The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is distributing more than $8.1 million in refunds to 194,207 consumers misled by Care.com, an online platform for child and elder care gigs.

The FTC alleged Care.com exaggerated job availability and earnings potential through deceptive advertising while using unfair tactics to hinder subscription cancellations.

Following the FTC’s action, Care.com paid over $8.5 million to settle the claims, with funds now compensating affected consumers.

The settlement also mandates Care.com to provide truthful job and earnings claims and simplify cancellations.

Refunds are being issued via checks, to be cashed within 90 days, and PayPal payments, redeemable within 30 days.

Consumers with questions can contact Epiq Systems at 888-867-6151 or visit the FTC’s website.

In 2024, the FTC refunded over $339 million nationwide.
