SSI Resolves Claims of Improper Finder’s Fee in U.S. Military Contract
The U.S. Office of Public Affairs announced that Schaefer Systems International Ltd. (SSI), a Hong Kong-based company, agreed to pay $876,000 to settle allegations of False Claims Act violations.
The case stems from a prohibited finder’s fee paid in connection with a 2018 Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) contract for a pallet racking system at a U.S. military base in South Korea.
SSI, a provider of warehouse logistics systems, allegedly falsely certified compliance with procurement rules while planning to pay a South Korean national for securing the contract.
Following an internal review, SSI disclosed the payment and cooperated fully with the government’s investigation, earning credit for its remedial actions.
Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate intensified accountability for contractors, while Special Agent-in-Charge Stanley A. Newell says the Department of Defense is commitment to combating illicit payment schemes.
