New Policy Ensures Federal Programs Prioritize American Citizens
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has enacted a major policy change, barring illegal immigrants from accessing taxpayer-funded programs.
The decision rescinds a 1998 Clinton-era interpretation of the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA), which had allowed illegal immigrants access to certain federal benefits, undermining Congressional intent.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., stated the policy “restores integrity” by reserving resources for Americans, projecting an additional $374 million annually for citizens in programs like Head Start.
The updated policy clarifies that programs such as Head Start, Title X Family Planning, and Community Mental Health Services are restricted to eligible citizens, aligning with President Trump’s Executive Order 14218.
Acting Assistant Secretary Andrew Gradison stressed prioritizing America’s vulnerable families, ensuring transparency and fairness in federal benefit distribution.
