USDA, FDA Back Voluntary Ban by 2028 Amid Public Demand
The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) announced a voluntary pledge to eliminate artificial dyes like Red 40 and Yellow 5 from ice cream by 2028, a move hailed by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary.
The initiative aligns with President Trump’s “Make America Healthy Again” agenda, responding to consumer demand for chemical-free foods. IDFA’s Michael Dykes emphasized delivering “wholesome” ice cream made with real milk.
The announcement, verified through USDA and IDFA statements, reflects growing scrutiny of artificial additives linked to health concerns.
While voluntary, the pledge signals industry accountability amid potential regulatory shifts.
This commitment could reshape consumer trust and set a precedent for broader food industry reforms, impacting millions of Americans’ diets.
