Project SERV Funds Target Kerr County to Support Students’ Mental Health, School Reopening
The U.S. Department of Education has allocated a $250,000 Project SERV grant to aid Texas communities reeling from catastrophic flooding in Kerr County, announced July 18, 2025.
The funds, pre-approved for the Texas Education Agency, will provide mental health support and ensure schools reopen on time in August, addressing the trauma of a disaster that claimed at least 121 lives, including dozens of children.
U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon emphasized solidarity with affected families, while Texas Governor Greg Abbott praised President Donald Trump’s swift federal response.
The grant, distributable based on need, highlights the urgent need for psychological and educational recovery in the flood-ravaged Hill Country.
