Operations Target Violent Criminal Illegal Aliens, Raising Stakes for Immigration Enforcement
On July 17, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested violent criminal illegal aliens across the U.S., including a convicted murderer and fentanyl trafficker, in a coordinated operation targeting the “worst of the worst.”
The sweep, announced by the Department of Homeland Security, underscores the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement push, spotlighting public safety threats.
In Los Angeles, ICE detained Phong Thanh Nguyen, a Vietnamese national convicted of second-degree murder and indecent exposure, who evaded deportation since 2012 under Obama-era policies.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned Nguyen’s prolonged presence, vowing relentless deportations.
Other arrests included Abraham Taddesse, an Ethiopian convicted of rape in Maryland;

Juan Felix Yanes-Montano, a Cuban convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping in Florida;

Cesar Porras, a Mexican fentanyl trafficker in Texas;

and Eduardo Salinas-Gonzalez, a Mexican alien smuggler in Texas.

These high-profile captures highlight ICE’s focus on removing dangerous offenders, fueling debates over immigration policy and sanctuary jurisdictions.
