Justice Department and FBI dismantle four sites, securing over 300 years in prison sentences
In a sweeping blow to online child exploitation, the Justice Department and FBI’s Operation Grayskull eradicated four dark web sites trafficking child sexual abuse material (CSAM), leading to 18 convictions with over 300 years in combined sentences.
On July 22, 2025, Thomas Peter Katsampes, 52, of Eagan, Minnesota, was sentenced to 250 months in prison for moderating a site, enforcing rules, and coaching users on sharing CSAM involving prepubescent children.
Eight others were convicted in Florida’s Southern District for running the primary site.
The operation, lauded by FBI Director Kash Patel as a historic strike, underscores law enforcement’s resolve to dismantle hidden networks.
“No one escapes justice, even in the dark web’s shadows,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti.
This crackdown protects vulnerable children and sends a stark warning to predators worldwide.
