Trump Administration Taps Federal Lands to Boost AI and Energy Innovation

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected four federal sites, Idaho National Laboratory, Oak Ridge Reservation, Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, and Savannah River Site, for cutting-edge AI data centers and co-located energy projects, announced July 24, 2025.

The move, driven by Trump administration executive orders, aims to cement U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence while slashing energy costs.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright called it “the next Manhattan Project,” emphasizing national security and grid reliability.

The sites, chosen after a robust April 2025 request for information, offer existing infrastructure and fast-tracked permitting, potentially for nuclear power.

DOE will invite private-sector partners, with solicitations expected soon and selections by year’s end.

The initiative could reshape energy and AI landscapes, with more sites under consideration.
