Whistleblower Lawsuit Exposes Grosfillex’s Alleged Fraud on Chinese Aluminum Imports
Grosfillex Inc., a Pennsylvania-based patio furniture company, will pay $4.9 million to settle allegations it dodged antidumping and countervailing duties on extruded aluminum from China, the Justice Department announced.
The settlement resolves claims that Grosfillex violated the False Claims Act by submitting false customs forms to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, misrepresenting furniture parts as duty-free and disguising some as “sham kits.”
A whistleblower, former employee Edward Wisner, sparked the investigation, earning $963,000.
Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate emphasized that such duties protect U.S. industries from unfair foreign practices.
The case, handled by the Justice Department and Eastern District of Pennsylvania, underscores the government’s crackdown on trade fraud, ensuring a level playing field for domestic manufacturers.
