Urgent Call to Address Rural Crime Crisis in South Africa After Kameeldrift Killings

A 46-year-old man, Chappies Strydom, was shot dead in his sleep on his Kameeldrift East smallholding at 02:30 on Monday early morning, July 28, 2025, the second murder in the area following the killing of Mossie Mostert in Buffelsdrift.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) is urging Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi to intervene, demanding a rural safety plan with Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni and local communities. Strydom, survived by his wife and four young sons, fought back as seven shots were fired.
