Traverse City Incident Exposes Media’s Reluctance to Credit Armed Bystander
In Traverse City, Michigan, on July 26, 2025, an armed citizen stopped a 42-year-old man’s random stabbing rampage at a Walmart, saving lives as 11 victims were wounded, six critically.
The suspect, Bradford James Gille, used a folding knife in a chaotic attack near the checkout counter, halted when a civilian drew a firearm, forcing Gille to drop his weapon before police arrived within three minutes.
Yet, mainstream media outlets, including CNN and NBC, downplayed or omitted the armed bystander’s role, often vaguely crediting “citizen involvement.”
As commentator and Guntuber Colion Noir critiques, this reflects a broader media bias, sidestepping the word “gun” to fit anti-firearm narratives, despite over 400 million guns in U.S. circulation.
This omission distorts public understanding of how an armed civilian’s disciplined response prevented a potential massacre, underscoring the power of responsible gun ownership in crisis.
