Former Michigan Soldier Arrested for Plotting ISIS Attack on U.S. Military Base

On May 14, 2025, Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, a 19-year-old former Michigan Army National Guard member, was arrested for attempting a mass shooting at the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility in Warren, Michigan, on behalf of ISIS.

Charged with providing material support to a terrorist organization and distributing information on destructive devices, Said faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force uncovered his plot, which involved supplying armor-piercing ammunition, conducting drone reconnaissance, and training undercover officers—posing as ISIS supporters—on firearms and Molotov cocktails.

Said was apprehended on May 13 near TACOM after launching his drone.

U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. emphasized zero tolerance for terrorism, while Brig. Gen. Rhett R. Cox highlighted the role of counterintelligence in preventing insider threats.

FBI Director Kash Patel praised the swift action of agents and partners, stating their efforts saved lives.
