The Omaha World-Herald falsely reported that a “Bellevue man” was charged with attempted murder after attacking an ICE agent.

However, a closer look reveals discrepancies. The suspect, identified as Gabriel Hurtado-Cariaco, is a Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. illegally in 2023, was deported, and re-entered in 2024 under Biden-era policies.

DHS confirms he is linked to the Tren de Aragua gang, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, not a legal resident of Bellevue, Nebraska.

While the attack involving severe injuries to an ICE agent occurred in Bellevue, labeling Hurtado-Cariaco a “Bellevue man” implies local residency, which is inaccurate given his illegal immigrant status. The Omaha World-Herald’s phrasing may mislead readers about his background.

DHS data supports the crime’s severity, noting a 500% rise in ICE assaults since 2023, but the suspect’s identity aligns with a transnational criminal, not a local citizen.
