Controversy Erupts as Ideological Divide Sparks Ban and Sparks New Creative Venture

Sahil Lavingia, a prominent tech entrepreneur and former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer, has been permanently banned from the Codex writing community, a hub for speculative fiction writers.

The decision, announced via a formal letter from the Codex Board, cites Lavingia’s involvement with DOGE, a controversial Trump administration initiative to cut federal spending, as violating the group’s Code of Conduct, allegedly making members feel unsafe.

Lavingia, who worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs under DOGE for over 50 days, expressed shock on X, stating, “Didn’t expect that working for DOGE would get me banned from a science fiction writing community I was a part of.”

The ban has sparked debate, with critics accusing Codex of hypocrisy for claiming to celebrate diversity while enforcing ideological conformity.

Lavingia is now launching an AI-neutral speculative fiction outlet, inviting submissions by July 1.
