Retired U.S. Military Officer Slams ANC’s Propaganda and Incompetent Leadership
A retired U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer has accused South African officials of spreading propaganda by falsely claiming the United States apologized for not attending a G20 Sherpa meeting in Sun City, North West Province.
International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola told SABC News that the U.S. sent a letter of apology for missing the meeting, which coincided with the NATO Summit in The Hague.
However, the officer asserts the letter was merely a professional courtesy explaining the absence, not an apology. “This is a deliberate misrepresentation to mislead South Africans,” the officer stated, calling it part of a broader propaganda campaign to portray strained U.S.-South Africa relations as successful.
The controversy follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s tense U.S. visit, where he faced criticism from President Trump over alleged anti-white policies.
Relations between the nations are at their lowest since apartheid, exacerbated by South Africa’s land expropriation law and accusations of ANC corruption.
The officer also criticized the ANC’s “bloated” cabinet, pointing to the sacking of Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield for questioning a lottery scandal allegedly linked to Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
“Why retain incompetent ministers like Lamola, who failed as justice minister, or others like Angie Motshekga, dubbed ‘Minister 5%’ for her education record?” the officer asked, urging South Africa to appoint capable leaders across racial lines to address its challenges.
