Construction began June 24, funded partly by FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program, and can hold up to 5,000 detainees under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) oversight.

The remote location, surrounded by alligators and pythons, enhances security for ICE operations. ICE will manage the facility, leveraging its expertise in detention and deportation logistics.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem praised the state’s partnership with ICE, applauding the agency’s role in efficiently staging criminal illegal aliens for mass deportation.

The center marks a major step in federal immigration enforcement efforts.
