Massive Takedown Targets Doctors, Transnational Gangs, and $245M in Seized Assets

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a historic 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown on Monday, June 30, 2025, charging 324 defendants, including 96 doctors and medical professionals, across 50 federal districts and 12 states for schemes involving over $14.6 billion in intended fraud losses,more than doubling the previous record of $6 billion.

Led by the DOJ’s Health Care Fraud Unit alongside the FBI, DEA, and HHS-OIG, the operation seized $245 million in assets, including cash, luxury vehicles, and cryptocurrency, while preventing $4 billion in fraudulent payments.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi declared, “This administration will not tolerate criminals who line their pockets with taxpayer dollars.”

The takedown targeted transnational criminal organizations, notably Operation Gold Rush, which submitted $10.6 billion in fraudulent Medicare claims using stolen identities.
