On May 6, 2025, an X post by @realLegendAfg claimed that U.S. tax dollars are funding the Taliban at $40 million per week, urging House Speaker Mike Johnson to schedule a vote on H.R. 260, the “No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act.”

The bill, reported by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs in April 2025, requires the State Department to track and report on foreign support to the Taliban, aiming to prevent U.S. aid from reaching the group.

According to a 2023 SIGAR report, over $2 billion in U.S. humanitarian aid since the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal may have indirectly benefited the Taliban.

The post has sparked online outrage, with users demanding Congress stop funding terrorists.

Speaker Johnson has not yet responded to the call for a vote.
