South African Artist Gifts Trump Painting Honoring Courage and Freedom

In a heartfelt gesture, South African expressionist artist John Rogers has created and gifted a powerful artwork titled Deus Ex Machina to President Donald Trump. The large-scale painting, measuring 2 meters by 1.4 meters, is a vivid depiction of the American flag floating above the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the day of the attempt on Trump’s life. Crafted in Rogers’ signature “Alterism” style—a blend of abstract realism and destructive enhancement—the artwork captures the intense struggle between good and evil, symbolized through the interplay of red and blue hues.
Using acrylic paint and a palette knife, Rogers layers vibrant colors and cuts through them while wet, creating a dynamic composition that reflects the political and moral battles of our time. The red background represents the Democratic forces, while the blue overlay signifies the Republican spirit, with the sun in the sky symbolizing life and energy. “The painting is about the fight for freedom,” Rogers explains, noting how his technique mirrors President Trump’s approach to governance, which he describes as a form of “destructive enhancement” to realign global leadership for the better.
Rogers, who hails from South Africa, expressed deep gratitude to Trump for his support of the country’s people. In a personal message, he thanked the president for his refugee program and for pressuring the South African government to address oppression under the ANC regime. “No matter whether you love or hate Donald Trump, nobody can deny his courage and conviction,” Rogers said. “That gains respect in this corrupt world.”
The artist’s decision to gift Deus Ex Machina to Trump is a token of appreciation from South Africans and a testament to the president’s global impact. “I wanted to give something back to President Trump for his compassion and caring for us all,” Rogers stated, hoping the artwork brings as much joy to Trump as it did to him while creating it.
The painting stands as both a bold artistic statement and a symbol of solidarity, reflecting Rogers’ belief in Trump’s leadership and the universal fight for freedom.
