The FDA has suspended new clinical trials that export American citizens’ cells to China and other hostile countries for genetic engineering, citing risks to patient privacy and national security.

The decision follows revelations that some trials failed to disclose the international transfer of sensitive biological materials, often without participants’ consent.

A Biden Administration exemption, enacted in April 2025, allowed such transfers, even to entities tied to the Chinese Communist Party.

The FDA is now reviewing all trials using this exemption, demanding transparency, ethical consent, and domestic processing of biological samples.

The NIH, led by Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, is also scrutinizing its research portfolio to ensure no federal funds support trials compromising data integrity or patient trust.

This aligns with Executive Orders aimed at safeguarding sensitive biological data from foreign adversaries, reinforcing stricter oversight to protect Americans while fostering secure medical innovation.
