The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a stark warning about a dramatic rise in smuggled Chinese-made signal jammers, which threaten public safety and aviation.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported an 830% increase in seizures since 2021, despite efforts by Chinese firms to evade detection. These devices, capable of disrupting radio frequencies, endanger emergency response, law enforcement, and critical infrastructure.

DHS highlighted cases where South American illegal aliens used jammers to block police communications during crimes like home invasions and bank robberies in states including Florida, Texas, and Virginia.

In February 2025, Texas authorities recovered a jammer during an arrest of a Chilean illegal alien.

U.S. law bans private use of these devices, and DHS vows to intensify seizures. “President Trump and Secretary Noem prioritize protecting America’s security,” a DHS spokesperson said.
