How U.S. Demands Will Shape South Africa’s Economic and Social Future
Senior White House officials outlined four pre-conditions for normalizing U.S.-South Africa bilateral relations: classifying farm attacks as priority crimes to be investigated by the Hawks, a public condemnation by the ANC of the phrase “Kill the Boer, kill the Farmer,” ensuring land expropriation occurs only with fair market compensation after all legal processes, and exempting U.S. entities from Black Economic Empowerment laws.
These conditions were discussed in a meeting with a delegation of Afrikaner leaders, including Dr. Corné Mulder (Freedom Front Plus), Dr. Theo de Jager (Southern African Agri Initiative), and Mr. Gerhard Papenfus (National Employers’ Association of South Africa). The White House expressed frustration over South Africa’s lack of progress on these issues despite prior communications.
The delegation committed to conveying these conditions to the South African government and public to promote transparency and strengthen bilateral ties.
