Federal Agency Disputes Claims of Bounty Hunters and Unlawful Detention

A KTLA 5 news report claiming an L.A. mother was forcibly taken to the U.S. border and held until she self-deported has been labeled a hoax by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

DHS clarified that the woman was never arrested or “kidnapped” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The agency emphasized that ICE does not employ bounty hunters, dismissing KTLA’s narrative of an unmarked warehouse detention without food, water, or legal access as fabricated.

DHS criticized the station for lazy reporting, linking such inaccuracies to a 700% surge in assaults on law enforcement.

The debunking follows a pattern of unverified immigration stories, with no evidence supporting KTLA’s claims.

ICE operates under strict federal protocols, and this fake news report highlights tensions between media narratives and official accounts, eroding public trust in local news.
