Ramaphosa Declines Action Against Malema, Defends “Kill the Boer” Chant

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has stated he will not take action against Julius Malema or the “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” chant, defending it as a protected liberation slogan.
In a recent statement to reporters, Ramaphosa emphasized South Africa’s sovereignty and the Constitutional Court’s ruling that the chant does not incite violence, as reported in “Julius Malema Faces Scrutiny Over Judicial Conflict of Interest After Trump-Ramaphosa Clash.”
This stance comes amidst controversy, including allegations of Malema’s involvement in farm murders detailed in “Controversy Erupts Over Alleged Censorship of Carte Blanche Episode Linking Julius Malema to Farm Murders.“
The Carte Blanche episode, allegedly censored, claimed a 28s gang member linked Malema to hiring assassins, though unverified.
Ramaphosa’s refusal to act contrasts with ongoing farm murder concerns, with 330 cases reported between 2019 and 2023, challenging his legal defense.
Critics argue the chant fuels violence, while Ramaphosa cites freedom of expression, highlighting tensions between constitutional rights and public safety.
The “Judicial Conflict of Interest” article also notes Malema’s JSC role, raising impartiality concerns in rulings protecting the chant.
Ramaphosa’s position underscores a divide between legal interpretation and societal impact, amidst censorship and judicial scrutiny debates.
