U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum praised President Donald J. Trump’s revocation of the Biden administration’s memorandum aimed at prioritizing fish populations over hydropower in the Columbia River Basin.

The decision protects four key hydroelectric dams on the Snake River, preserving over 3,000 megawatts of clean energy, enough to power 2.5 million homes.

Burgum emphasized the administration’s commitment to affordable, reliable, American-made energy, stating, “Now is not the time to shut down American energy.” The Columbia River Basin generates 44% of U.S. hydropower, supporting over 30 million homes nationwide.

Hydropower, a century-old energy source, provides immediate grid support during outages.

This action ensures low-cost, stable energy while prioritizing American energy security and community needs, according to Burgum and the Department of the Interior.
