A violent armed robbery at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Durbanville left a family shaken and raised fresh concerns about public safety on Sunday evening.
Around 19:00 SAST, a man and his young son were attacked by two to three assailants while ordering food.
The attackers, initially mistaken for a homeless individual, brandished a revolver, striking the father in the face and demanding his wallet and cellphone.
Shots were fired during the chaotic encounter, though no serious injuries were reported beyond a stitched lip and jaw spasms requiring medical attention
The family escaped by reversing out of the drive-thru, while McDonald’s staff failed to contact police, prompting outrage.
Local residents expressed alarm on social media, with some linking the incident to South Africa’s rising crime rates.
